As a Christian Psychologist, I have spent many years counseling people, especially the Body of Christ. My intention has always been emotional and physical freedom from any and all mental challenges. Let's take anger for instance. It is now generally agreed upon that anger is a secondary emotion. What lies underneath are core feelings of being disregarded, unimportant, accused, guilty, untrustworthy, devalued, rejected, powerless, and unlovable. These emotions are capable of provoking considerable emotional pain. In other words ANGER is a negative emotion covering for many other negative emotions.
When I look into God's Word, emotions are everywhere such as “root of bitterness” springs up and causes trouble and by it many become defiled. The book of Acts states, "you are in the gall of bitterness and in the bond of iniquity." In Colossians 3:7, God even tells us "to put them all away; you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice." The Bible even tells us that emotions can be LODGED in us (Ecclesiastes 7:9)!
So emotions can spring up, cause trouble, cause us to be defiled and in the gall of bitterness, and even lodge in us! Selah. Then the Word goes on to tell us we need to put them all away! Now you are saying, HELP because you know like every other human being that you've "got them" springing up, causing trouble, becoming defiled, "in the gall of bitterness" and lodged in you! Now you must put them away!
